The Gira HomeServer is the on-board computer for intelligent buildings. It connects the KNX system’s electrical installation to the computer network and the internet, thereby allowing intelligent building technology to be controlled centrally via a large number of operating devices, regardless of the user’s location. What’s more, numerous other technologies can be seamlessly integrated in the building control in this way – for example: door intercoms, cameras, and audio systems, as well as systems from other manufacturers for the bathroom or kitchen or for home entertainment. Expanding the KNX system with the Gira HomeServer offers numerous advantages: occupants don’t just enjoy the advantages of mobile technology control, but rather the full Gira experience, which provides maximum comfort, security and energy efficiency. The award-winning Gira Interface makes controlling intelligent technology enjoyable by enabling complex scenarios to be controlled easily – with just one finger.

HomeServer update 4.11

Besides new functions in the Quad Client, the HomeServer update 4.11 also includes an update for the Gira Expert start-up software. The Quad Client now allows users to select a white interface. The drawing system has also been modernised and extended. Building floor plans can additionally be recorded and retrieved via the floor plan navigation, and the lighting status, blind position, & window status information can be viewed via a floor plan display. This offers increased convenience and time savings for the customer. 

In the Gira Expert, a connection to the HomeServer can be established via the graphic logic editor, which can be used to test and analyse logics online. This enables the early detection of faulty logics in text mode. Configuration has also been simplified in many ways. DHCP can be set in the project or network settings, scene nodes can now be called up & executed directly via URL, and various logic nodes are available for visualising and controlling the Gira Alarm Connect security system.

Voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Building functions can also be used with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant via the Gira HomeServer using an IoT interface. To do this, simply set up the "Gira Smart Home" skill. In addition to the Gira HomeServer (from version 4.10.0), you will also need the Gira S1 for secure encryption and a corresponding device from Amazon (e.g. Amazon Echo) or Google (e.g. Google Home) for voice control. All devices must be fully set up and connected to the internet.

Simple operation with the Gira Interface

With the Gira Interface, the user interface of the Gira HomeServer, controlling innovative building technology is child’s play. The menu navigation is clearly designed and intuitive. Any function can be reached within only two levels. Additional detailed information or operating elements are displayed directly in a pop-up window. This allows very convenient operation via touch screen – with just one finger. In addition, all the devices that can be used to control the building via the Gira HomeServer/FacilityServer possess a uniformly structured interface design. As a result, users won’t need to get used to a new menu navigation each time – and it doesn’t matter whether you’re using a Gira G1, a PC, a tablet or a smartphone. The user interface has been adapted to the particular screen sizes of the individual end devices for optimum usability. The Gira HomeServer offers the resident a high degree of flexibility with self-configurable if/then scenarios in the Gira HomeServer app. This makes complex things easy to control – any time and anywhere.

System requirements for control devices: The internet browser of any operating device must support at least HTML 4.0, Java Script 1.1, CSS and Dynamic HTML. Start-up with the following software: HomeServer Expert software for operating systems from Windows XP™ including Internet Explorer from version 6.0. Adoption of ETS group addresses from ETS 2, ETS 3 and ETS 4. Integration of graphics programs. Updates can be easily imported into the HomeServer via USB port.
